Write Lint is a free, open-source project. Bug reports and feature requests live on GitHub:

  • Bugs / unexpected behavior: open an issue at github.com/bilozorDev/writeLint/issues.
  • Feature requests: same place — tag your issue enhancement.
  • Apple Intelligence / Foundation Models questions: those are an Apple thing, not us — see Apple's developer docs.
  • Cloud-mode questions (Claude / OpenAI keys):account and billing issues live with the provider. For Write Lint–side issues (key won't save, wrong model selected), open a GitHub issue above.

Requirements

For the default (on-device) mode:

  • macOS 26.0 (Tahoe) or later.
  • Apple Silicon Mac (M1 or later).
  • Apple Intelligence enabled in System Settings.
  • A supported region and language for the on-device model.

For the optional cloud mode: just an API key from Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI, pasted into Settings. No extra system requirements.

Common issues

“Apple Intelligence is off” banner. That's a system-level setting, not a Write Lint setting. Open System Settings → Apple Intelligence & Siri and turn it on. The model may need to download the first time, which can take several minutes.

First polish feels slow. The on-device model loads the first time you use it after launch. Subsequent polishes are fast (typically under 500 ms).

Output looks wrong. Review the diff before clicking Accept. If you disagree with the polish, hit Reject or Esc — your original text is preserved.

Want to change what the model does? Turn on Advanced Modein Settings to edit the prompt sent to the model. The “Revert to default” button restores the factory prompt.
